Basketball Recap: Moffat Comes Up Short

Moffat lost against Centennial back in February of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Moffat Cowboys were beaten by the Centennial Rams 64-25. The Cowboys were down 46-19 at the end of the third quarter, and things only got worse from there.

Despite the loss, Moffat saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Preston Heater posted 20 points and five steals. Heater is crushing it when it comes to steals: he's grabbed at least two every time he's taken the court this season.

Even though they lost, Moffat smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in seven consecutive matches.

Moffat's defeat dropped their record down to 5-5. As for Centennial, they moved to 5-6 with that win, which also ended their four-game losing streak.

Moffat won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Creede at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday. Moffat's offense hasn't had much luck over their past three contests, but Saturday's match will give them a chance to turn things around. As for Centennial, they will also get right back to it: they'll challenge Sangre de Cristo at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday.
