Basketball Recap: Taft Falls Despite Big Games from Chasen Wilkerson and Isaiah Williams

Taft's tournament run continued when they took on New Braunfels on Saturday. The Taft Raiders fell to the New Braunfels Unicorns 55-50. While losing is never fun, the Raiders can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 788th, while the Unicorns are ranked 215th).

Taft's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Isaiah Williams, who went 5 of 11 on his way to 15 points in addition to six boards and five assists, and Chasen Wilkerson, who went 6 for 9 on his way to 15 points. Williams' afternoon made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Axel Tsague, who posted six points and six rebounds.

Taft has traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-10 record this season. As for New Braunfels, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games, which provided a massive bump to their 11-8 record this season.

Taft didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 62-43 defeat against Stevens on the 10th. As for New Braunfels, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 65-58 win against Tivy on the 10th.
