Basketball Game Preview: Fairfax Lions vs. West Springfield Spartans

Fairfax has gone 9-1 against West Springfield recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Saturday. The Fairfax Lions will take on the West Springfield Spartans at 1:30 p.m. The two teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with four consecutive losses for Fairfax and three for West Springfield.

Last Thursday, Fairfax came up short against Woodson and fell 47-35. While losing is never fun, the Lions can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 155th, while the Cavaliers are ranked 11th).

Fairfax's loss came about despite a quality game from Cam Yingling, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 11 rebounds. Yingling's evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Mike Malarkey, who posted eight points.

Meanwhile, West Springfield was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Thursday as they fell 63-57 to Robinson.

Fairfax's record now sits at 7-7. As for West Springfield, their record now sits at 3-9.

Fairfax strolled past West Springfield when the teams last played back in February of 2024 by a score of 62-44. The rematch might be a little tougher for Fairfax since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
