Soccer Game Preview: Soledad vs. Gonzales

Soledad has won three straight games at home, while Gonzales has won three straight on the road, but those streaks won't matter much on Thursday. The Soledad Aztecs will square off against the Gonzales Spartans at 5:45 p.m. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Soledad gave up the first goal last Friday, but they didn't let that get them down. Everything went their way against Monte Vista Christian as Soledad made off with a 5-2 victory. The score was close at the half, but the Aztecs pulled away in the second half with five goals.

Meanwhile, Gonzales won against Carmel on Wednesday with two goals and they decided to stick to that goal total again on Friday. Gonzales sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 2-1 win over Pacific Collegiate. Given the Spartans' advantage in MaxPreps' California soccer rankings (they are ranked 310th, while the Pumas are ranked 1089th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Jorge Uribe was the driving force of Gonzales' attack as he scored both of Gonzales' goals, bringing his season total up to 20 goals.

Gonzales is on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 games, which provided a nice bump to their 14-3-3 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 33 goals over those 11 contests. As for Soledad, their victory bumped their record up to 4-6-1.
