Basketball Recap: Lexington Comes Up Short

Lexington played a tough match on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They took a blow against the Jackson South Side Hawks, falling 64-20. The game marked the Tigers' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Jackson South Side's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jaidynn Askins, who went 5 of 11 to rack up 14 points in addition to eight rebounds and six steals. Askins is also on a roll when it comes to shooting accuracy, as she's posted one of at least 45% in the last 16 games she's played. Ri'Kiya Mitchell was another key player, dropping a double-double on 15 points and 11 boards.

Lexington's defeat dropped their record down to 15-6. As for Jackson South Side, the victory was the 15th in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 21-2.

Coming up, Lexington will welcome Chester County at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Lexington is facing Chester County at the right time seeing as Chester County is stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Jackson South Side, they will head out on the road to take on McNairy Central at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Jackson South Side knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past 11 matchups -- so hopefully McNairy Central likes a good challenge.
