Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Waynesfield-Goshen). They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 9-8 win over the Cory-Rawson Fighting Hornets on Monday. This was payback for the Tigers, who suffered a 6-1 defeat the last time these two teams met.
Troy Spencer spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered six earned (and two unearned) runs on ten hits and racked up six Ks.
On the hitting side, Jace Kaufman was incredible, going 3-for-5 with three stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Those two RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Rocky Cummings, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
The victory got Waynesfield-Goshen back to even at 3-3. As for Cory-Rawson, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-6.
