Softball Game Preview: Clover Eagles vs. York Cougars

The Clover Eagles will head out on the road to take on the York Cougars at 7:15 p.m. on Monday. Clover's pitching crew has only allowed 3.8 runs per game this season, so York's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

On Friday, Clover beat Northwestern 8-5.

Meanwhile, York waltzed into their matchup on Thursday with seven straight wins... but they left with eight. They put the hurt on the Cavaliers with a sharp 16-2 victory. Considering the Cougars have won nine contests by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Emma Ferrell made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in strikeouts (five). She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. That triple was her first of the season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Peyton Brooks, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. Salleigh McSwain was another key player, going 1-for-3 with three runs, one double, and one RBI.

York hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Richland Northeast struck out six times.

Clover's record is now 15-5. As for York, their record now sits at 15-8.

Clover might still be hurting after the 8-1 defeat they got from York when the teams last played back in April of 2025. Can the Eagles avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
