Softball Recap: Hampton Crabbers vs. Denbigh Patriots
Hampton had lost ten straight at home dating back to last season, but on Thursday they dropped down to 1-10 to make it 11. They took a 25-21 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Denbigh Patriots. The Crabbers were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Patriots earlier this season, when they won 24-23.
As for Denbigh, their win ended a six-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 2-6. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
For Denbigh's part, Juleisy Rivera-Rodriguez was a standout: she went 5-for-6 with six RBI, three doubles, and two runs. Those five hits gave Rivera-Rodriguez a new career-high. Lynette Barrett was another key player, getting on base in six of her seven plate appearances with four runs, four RBI, and two doubles.
Hampton and Denbigh could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Virginia Rankings.
