Softball Game Preview: Olympic Trojans vs. Port Angeles Roughriders

Olympic is 1-9 against Port Angeles since April of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. Olympic will challenge Port Angeles at 4:15 p.m. Olympic is coming into the contest hot, having won their last four games.

Olympic will bounce into Thursday's matchup after beating North Kitsap, who they had gone 2-7 against in their nine prior meetings. Olympic came out on top against North Kitsap by a score of 8-4 on Monday.

Brenda Morrison spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on nine hits and racked up 12 Ks. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 6 strikeouts per game.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Evee Abbay, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. That home run marked the first that she launched this season. Another player making a difference was Beya Richmond, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-5.

Abbay wasn't the only one working in the hit department: Olympic kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in four consecutive games.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Port Angeles). They were the clear victors by a 14-0 margin over Bainbridge on Monday. The Roughriders haven't had any issues with the Spartans recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive victory against them.

Port Angeles' win was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 4-1-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.5 runs over those games. As for Olympic, their record is now 6-1.

Olympic came up short against Port Angeles in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, falling 4-1. Can Olympic avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
