Football Recap: Del Valle Starts Season with Win Against Montwood

Del Valle had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They claimed a resounding 41-7 victory over the Montwood Rams. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Conquistadores' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 225th, while the Rams are ranked 583rd).

Del Valle got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Dante Eytcheson out in front who rushed for 92 yards and two TDs on only ten carries. Those 92 rushing yards gave Eytcheson a new career-high. Another passer making a difference was Jake Fette, who threw for 157 yards and three touchdowns.

Del Valle's run defense was locked in: Montwood could only muster 3.5 yards per carry. The team can thank Aldo Rios for the heroic effort on defense: he. Del Valle didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 7.3.

Del Valle didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Josiah Nunez and Abraham Garcia. Another thorn in Montwood's side was Rios, who picked up a sack and made 12 total tackles (3.0 for loss).
