Basketball Game Preview: Dixie Flyers vs. Crimson Cliffs Mustangs

The Dixie Flyers are taking a road trip to face off against the Crimson Cliffs Mustangs at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Dixie has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.

Dixie is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Utah's top teams: Hurricane, who was ranked 24th at the time (Dixie was ranked 14th). The Flyers walked away with a 71-58 win over the Tigers on Wednesday. The Flyers' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

Dixie relied on the efforts of Collin Simmons, who dropped a double-double with 19 points and ten boards, and Chaz Holbrook, who went 6-for-15 to rack up 19 points. Simmons' big performance that evening made it five games in a row in which he has scored at least 15 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ammon Ashton, who posted five points in addition to eight rebounds and six assists.

Dixie smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've posted since back in January.

Meanwhile, Crimson Cliffs posted their closest victory since January 31st on Wednesday. They had just enough and edged out Pine View 66-63. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Mustangs.

Dixie's win bumped their record up to 5-3. As for Crimson Cliffs, their victory bumped their record up to 7-4.

Dixie came up short against Crimson Cliffs when the teams last played back in January, falling 52-47. Can the Flyers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
