Softball Recap: Serra Comes Up Short

Serra had lost three straight at home, but on Thursday they dropped down to 4-7-1 to make it four. They came up short against the St. Pius X-St. Matthias Academy Warriors, falling 26-8. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Warriors this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 18-5 back in March.

London Gant made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with four stolen bases, two triples, and three runs. Another player making a difference was Mylah Bradford, who went 1-for-3 with two runs.

As for St. Pius X-St. Matthias Academy, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-9 record this season. The team dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 11.2 runs.

On St. Pius X-St. Matthias Academy's side, Aaliyah Medina was excellent, going 5-for-6 with four runs, five RBI, and two doubles. With that strong performance, Medina is now averaging an impressive 2.1 runs per game. Ashley Valencia was another key player, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Coming up, Serra will be playing in front of their home fans against Hawthorne Math & Science Academy at 3:15 p.m. on Saturday. The Aviators have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 9.5 runs per game on average), something the Cavaliers will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for St. Pius X-St. Matthias Academy, they will head out to square off against Cabrillo at 3:30 p.m. on Friday.
