Baseball Recap: Salem Takes a Loss

Salem extended their losing streak to four on Friday, dropping them down to 7-10. They lost 16-4 to the Bogue Chitto Bobcats. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Bobcats this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 8-2 on Tuesday.

Salem saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Keaton Roberts, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

As for Bogue Chitto, they pushed their record up to 10-11 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home. Considering they have won nine matchups by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

On Bogue Chitto's side, Tripp McCaffrey was a major factor no matter where he played. He struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. McCaffrey also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Bogue Chitto is 3-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 7-10 otherwise. McCaffrey was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

In other batting news, Tucker Kyzar was incredible, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. He is becoming a predictor of Bogue Chitto's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 3-1 (and 7-10 when he doesn't). Jayden Poole was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Looking ahead, Salem will venture away from home to face off against Jefferson Davis County at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Bogue Chitto does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
