Baseball Recap: Weeki Wachee Has No Trouble Against Land O' Lakes

Weeki Wachee hadn't done well against Land O' Lakes recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. The Weeki Wachee Hornets walked away with a 6-3 victory over the Land O' Lakes Gators. That looming 6-3 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Hornets yet this season.

JD Sammons spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on nine hits. Weeki Wachee is 2-1 when Sammons allowsone or fewer earned runs, but 4-5 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Weeki Wachee saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jack Strong, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4. That's the most runs Strong has posted since back in March of 2024. Another was Jayden Allen, who scored a run.

Weeki Wachee has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a massive bump to their 6-6 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. This is the second loss in a row for Land O' Lakes and nudges their season record down to 5-6.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Weeki Wachee will challenge Pasco at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average, (Pasco 1.1, Weeki Wachee 3.6) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Land O' Lakes, they will face off against Mitchell at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
