Basketball Recap: Fort Chiswell's Win on Wednesday Extends Winning Streak to Five

Fort Chiswell waltzed into their matchup on Wednesday with four straight wins... but they left with five. They came out on top against the Grayson County Blue Devils by a score of 57-47. Given the Pioneers' advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 156th, while the Blue Devils are ranked 352nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Fort Chiswell was led to victory by Owen Jackson and Brayden Billings. Jackson went 6 of 9 from beyond the arc en route to 23 points along with eight rebounds and five assists, while Billings dropped a double-double on 17 points and 13 boards. With that strong performance, Billings is now averaging an impressive 8.2 rebounds per game. Parker Moore was another key player, putting up two points in addition to six steals and five boards.

They weren't the only one working in the assists department: Fort Chiswell was working as a unit and finished the game with 15 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Grayson County only posted seven assists.

When it comes to explaining why Grayson County lost, don't look at Makray Goad. Despite the final result, he went 7 for 17 on his way to 22 points. Those 22 points gave Goad a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Adam Pennington, who posted four points and 12 rebounds.

Fort Chiswell has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 10-4 record this season. As for Grayson County, their record now sits at 3-7.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Fort Chiswell beat Grayson County by a score of 74-69 on Friday.
