Football Recap: Anthony J Modeste's Big Game Can't Quite Lead John Carroll over Boys Latin

John Carroll suffered their biggest defeat since September 6, 2024 on Friday. They came up short against the Boys Latin Lakers, falling 35-14. The Patriots were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Lakers apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in October of 2024.

Several Patriots players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Anthony J Modeste, who threw for 287 yards and one touchdown while completing 77.4% of his passes, and also punched in one rushing score. 128 of J Modeste's passing yards were hauled in by James Westervelt.

Joey Keller went supernova For Boys Latin., throwing for 217 yards and three TDs while completing 80% of his passes. The dominant performance also gave Keller a new career-high in passer rating (160.4). Another player making a difference was Cooper Monroe, who picked up 104 receiving yards and one score.

This is the second loss in a row for John Carroll and nudges their season record down to 5-3. As for Boys Latin, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 5-4.

Looking ahead, John Carroll will head out to square off against St. Paul's at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. The Crusaders' defense has only allowed 12.3 points per game this season, so the Patriots' offense will have their work cut out for them. As for Boys Latin, they will host St. John's Catholic Prep at 3:15 p.m. on Friday. The Lakers will be up against the Vikings' rather soft defense (which has allowed 32.86 points per contest), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
