Softball Recap: Nicholas County Has No Trouble Against Ritchie County

Nicholas County was forced to take a big defeat against they on Saturday, they got the better of them on Saturday. They were the clear victors by a 22-5 margin over the Ritchie County Rebels. With that victory, the Grizzlies brought their scoring average up to 7.9 runs per game.

Abby Hilleary made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out seven batters over four innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off only two hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with three RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Makenzie Hanshaw, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with four runs, four RBI, and two doubles. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024. Maddie Burns was another key player, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with four runs and one RBI.

Nicholas County always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .575. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

The win got Nicholas County back to even at 5-5. As for Ritchie County, their loss ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 11-3-1.

Looking ahead, Nicholas County will host Braxton County at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Ritchie County, they will venture away from home to face off against Parkersburg at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The Big Reds have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed nine runs per game on average), something the Rebels will no doubt try to take advantage of.
