Basketball Recap: Manila's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Friday

It was a good run, but Manila unfortunately witnessed the end of their six-game winning streak on Friday. They took a 62-50 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Tabiona Tigers. The Mustangs were not able to make up for their defeat to the Tigers from their previous meeting back in February of 2024.

Manila's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Sadie Davis, who went 7 for 14 on her way to 15 points and three blocks. Davis is on a roll when it comes to blocks, as she's now posted two or more in the last five games she's played. Another player making a difference was Ruthanna Wilson, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 12 rebounds.

Even though they lost, Manila smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in 16 consecutive contests.

Tabiona's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Maycee Rhoades led the charge by going 9 of 20 en route to 22 points and six boards. Kaidence Pippy also deserves some recognition as she posted her first block of the season.

Manila's defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 10-6. As for Tabiona, their victory was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 14-2.

Manila wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 61-45 loss against Lyman on the 25th. Tabiona has also already played their next game, a 55-25 win against Wendover on the 25th.
