Basketball Recap: Kathleen Takes a Loss

Kathleen was the 78-48 winner over McKeel Academy when they last played one another back in November of 2015, but their luck changed this time around. The Kathleen Red Devils lost to the McKeel Academy Wildcats at home by a 77-58 margin on Friday. The Red Devils have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Despite the loss, Kathleen saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Rashard Kelly posted 31 points and six rebounds. The dominant performance gave Kelly a new career-high in points. Another player making a difference was Jayshaun Fredrick, who earned 11 points.

Jamal Whyte was the offensive standout of the match as he made all 10 shots he took for 18 points and six boards. Axel Acevedo was another key player, almost dropping a double-double on ten points and nine rebounds.

Kathleen's defeat dropped their record down to 3-15. As for McKeel Academy, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 9-10 record this season.

Kathleen didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, an 88-82 loss against Bridge to Independence on the 25th. As for McKeel Academy, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 71-57 win against Brandon Academy on the 29th.
