Baseball Recap: Eight Straight Home Wins for Greely

On Friday Greely's undefeated season almost came to an end. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Cape Elizabeth Capers a 1-0 shutout. The one-run effort marked the Rangers' lowest-scoring game of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.

The result came thanks to Gehrig Donnelly's shutout, as he gave up just five hits and racked up six Ks. Those six strikeouts set a new season-high mark for him.

At the plate, Greely saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ben Kyles, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.

Greely pushed their record up to 5-0 with the win, which was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season. As for Cape Elizabeth, their defeat was their first of the season and makes their record 2-1.

Coming up, Greely will take on Edward Little at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The Red Eddies have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.75 runs per game on average), something the Rangers will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Cape Elizabeth, they will face off against Mt. Ararat at 4:15 p.m. on Monday. The Eagles' pitching crew has only allowed 2.8 runs per game this season, so the Capers' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
