Nation's No. 1 sophomore basketball prospect Charles Bassey ruled ineligible

The
San Antonio News-Express reported Thursday that the nation's No. 1 sophomore basketball prospect has been ruled ineligible for the 2016-17 season and likely beyond.

St Anthony Catholic (San Antonio) has been knocked out of action by the Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools (TAPPS), which declined to elaborate on the reasons behind the decision.
The 6-foot-10, 220-pound power forward/center was a first team
MaxPreps Freshman All-American last season after posting 20.2 points, 17.1 rebounds and 5.9 blocks per game.
A native of Nigeria, Bassey led St. Anthony to a 32-6 record in 2015-16 and the TAPPS 5A state championship. Big things were expected this season under first-year head coach Jeff Merritt and an improved supporting cast.
The Yellowjackets are slated for several big tournaments and showcases around the country, including the City of Palms Classic in December.
