Basketball Recap: Woodbridge Takes a Loss

After flying high against Forest Park last Tuesday, Woodbridge came back down to earth. The Woodbridge Vikings were just a bucket shy of victory on Friday and fell 52-51 to the Charles J. Colgan Sharks. The Vikings were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Sharks earlier this season, when they won 42-37.

Several Vikings players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Zoey Coffer, who went 5 of 11 en route to 12 points in addition to seven assists and five boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Maia Melendez, who posted 18 points.

Mariah Barksdale was her usual excellent self, going 9 for 18 on her way to 23 points for Charles J. Colgan. The dominant performance gave Barksdale a new career-high in points. Milana Zeraye was another key player, putting up six points and ten rebounds.

Woodbridge now has a losing record at 6-7. As for Charles J. Colgan, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 5-6 record this season.

Woodbridge has already played their next game, a 53-39 loss against Maury on the 18th. As for Charles J. Colgan, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 52-13 win against Forest Park on the 21st.
