Basketball Recap: St. Augustine Catholic Takes a Loss

After flying high against Andrada Polytechnic last Wednesday, St. Augustine Catholic came back down to earth. The St. Augustine Catholic Wolves fell 47-39 to the Lincoln Prep Lightning on Friday.

Despite the loss, St. Augustine Catholic saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Jovanni Fernandez went 7 for 15 on his way to 15 points and five rebounds. Fernandez has been hot recently, having also posted two or more steals the last four times he's played. Carlos Acuna was another key player, putting up 15 points.

St. Augustine Catholic has been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-7 record this season. As for Lincoln Prep, their victory ended a four-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 5-3.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. St. Augustine Catholic and Catalina will compete for holiday cheer at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. St. Augustine Catholic is facing Catalina at the right time seeing as Catalina is stuck on a five-game losing streak. Lincoln Prep will take on Valley Lutheran in a holiday battle at at 7:00 p.m. on Monday.
