Basketball Game Preview: Dilley Wolves vs. Hondo Owls

Dilley is 0-6 against Hondo since November of 2021 but things could change on Friday. The Dilley Wolves will host the Hondo Owls at 7:15 p.m.

Dilley is headed into Friday's match looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their 17th straight game dating back to last season on Tuesday. They were dealt a 103-39 loss at the hands of Lytle. While losing is never fun, the Wolves can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1681st, while the Pirates are ranked 632nd).

Dilley's defeat came about despite a quality game from Jacob Lopez, who went 7 for 14 on his way to 19 points and four steals. Isaiah Kinsey also deserves some recognition as he posted his first block of the season.

Hondo fell on hard times earlier this season, but after back-to-back victories it seems like their luck might finally be changing. They managed a 67-61 win over Jourdanton on Tuesday.

Hondo pushed their record up to 8-16 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 67.3 points per game. As for Dilley, their loss dropped their record down to 0-15.

Dilley came up short against Hondo in their previous matchup back in February of 2024, falling 56-51. Can Dilley avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
