Baseball Recap: South Sumter Beats Belleview for Their Fourth Straight Win

South Sumter had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the ten-run drubbing they dealt Belleview on Friday. Everything went the South Sumter Raiders' way against the Belleview Rattlers as the South Sumter Raiders made off with a 13-3 win. Considering the Raiders have won five matchups by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

South Sumter got a great performance from Jackson Gill as he struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. Those nine strikeouts gave Gill a new career-high.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Malakhi Boone, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Ismael Rodriguez, who scored two runs while going 4-for-4.

South Sumter always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .595. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Belleview only posted an OBP of .304.

The victory (which was South Sumter's fourth in a row) raised their record to 9-2. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of 3.75 runs across that stretch. As for Belleview, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-6 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. South Sumter will host Freeport at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Freeport is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.6 runs per game this season. As for Belleview, they will welcome Berryhill at 3:30 p.m. on Monday.
