Football Recap: Monroe Starts Season with Loss on the Road

Monroe had to start their season on the road on Friday, and it wasn't the start they were hoping for. They had to suffer through a 56-7 loss at the hands of the Thomas County Central Yellow Jackets. The defeat continues a trend for the Golden Tornadoes in their meetings with the Yellow Jackets: they've now lost nine in a row.

Thomas County Central's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Christian Lawrence, who rushed for 70 yards and two scores on only seven carries. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaylen Johnson, who threw for 107 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Monroe will face off against Colquitt County at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Thomas County Central, they will square off against Cairo at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
