Basketball Game Preview: Mira Monte Lions vs. Del Oro Suns

The Mira Monte Lions will head out on the road to face off against the Del Oro Suns at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.

Mira Monte is probably headed into the matchup with a chip on their shoulder considering South just ended the team's three-game winning streak on Wednesday. They came up short against the Spartans, falling 65-40. While losing is never fun, the Lions can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 984th, while the Spartans are ranked 371st).

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Del Oro). They blew past Foothill, posting an 87-50 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Suns.

Del Oro is also on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a massive bump to their 10-8 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.0 points per game. As for Mira Monte, they now have a losing record at 8-9.

Mira Monte came up short against Del Oro in their previous matchup back in February of 2024, falling 63-50. Can Mira Monte avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
