Softball Recap: Make It Four in a Row for Franklin Regional

Franklin Regional got themselves on the board against Gateway on Wednesday, but Gateway never followed suit. They put the hurt on the Gators with a sharp 17-0 victory. The result was nothing new for the Panthers, who have now won four matchups by ten runs or more so far this season.

Chloe Lancaster made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over five innings pitched. Lancaster was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double. That double was her first of the season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Toryn Fulton, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with six RBI, three runs, and one triple. She has been hot, having also posted at least one stolen base the last seven times she's played. Ciara Camacho was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base.

Franklin Regional always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .543. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Gateway only posted an OBP of .318.

The win was the fourth in a row for Franklin Regional, bringing their record up to 8-3. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.5 runs on average over those games. As for Gateway, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-8.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Franklin Regional will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Fox Chapel at 3:45 p.m. on May 5. As for Gateway, they will head out to face off against Armstrong at 3:45 p.m. on Friday.
