Basketball Recap: Emerald Alford Key Part of Team Effort in Bobcats Win

Baptist Hill's game last Tuesday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Saturday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Scott's Branch Eagles, sneaking past 46-43. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Bobcats have posted since December 14, 2024.

Baptist Hill got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Emerald Alford out in front who dropped a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds. Those 13 points gave Alford a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jazerah Fenley, who posted four points in addition to nine steals and five boards.

Baptist Hill smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive rebounds. They pulled down six more offensive boards than Scott's Branch's also-impressive total of 12.

Despite the loss, Scott's Branch saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Trayiona Maxfield went 7-for-16 on her way to 18 points along with eight rebounds and four steals. Maxfield has become a key player for Scott's Branch: the team is 3-1 when she posts at least 15 points, but 6-8 otherwise. Zamaria Lowery was another key player, putting up five points and eight boards.

Baptist Hill's victory bumped their record up to 11-8. As for Scott's Branch, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 9-9.

Baptist Hill has already played their next contest, a 52-11 win against Branchville on the 4th. As for Scott's Branch, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 49-28 victory against Bethune-Bowman on the 4th.
