Basketball Recap: Maranatha Christian Academy Puts Losing Streak Behind Them

Calvary Baptist Christian Academy came into Friday's contest looking for another win against Maranatha Christian Academy, but Dakota Nelson wouldn't allow it. In a tight matchup that could have gone either way, the Maranatha Christian Academy Huskies made off with a 61-60 win over the Calvary Baptist Christian Academy Crusaders thanks in part to Nelson, who dropped a double-double on 44 points and 13 rebounds. That makes it 16 consecutive games in which he has scored at least a third of Maranatha Christian Academy's points.

The team also got some help courtesy of Grayson Schrock, who posted six points and seven boards. That's the most rebounds he has posted since back in November of 2024.

Maranatha Christian Academy moved to 4-12 with that victory, which also ended their three-game losing streak. As for Calvary Baptist Christian Academy, they dropped their record down to 2-3 with the defeat, which was their third straight on the road.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. After both having extra time off, Maranatha Christian Academy and Faith Bible Christian Academy/Mid-America Prep will shake off the cobwebs and face off against one another at 7:00 p.m. on February 6th. As for Calvary Baptist Christian Academy, they will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on First Baptist Christian at 6:30 p.m. on February 4th.
