Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Woodland Regional). They put the hurt on the Waterbury Career Academy Spartans with a sharp 14-1 win on Wednesday. The Hawks haven't had any issues with the Spartans recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive victory against them.

Bryce DeCrescenzo looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Woodland Regional is 3-1 when DeCrescenzo allows one or fewer hits, but 6-10 otherwise.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Erik Pulkkinen, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. He has become a key player for Woodland Regional: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 5-11 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Michael Landrigan, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, one triple, and one run.

Woodland Regional was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .469. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Woodland Regional's record now sits at 9-11. As for Waterbury Career Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-12.

Looking ahead, Woodland Regional will take on Holy Cross at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Crusaders' pitching crew has only allowed 3.8 runs per game this season, so the Hawks' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
