Basketball Recap: Kayleigh James and Reece Weir Secure Win for Gilman

Gilman won the last time they faced Spencer and things went their way on Thursday too. Everything went the Gilman Pirates' way against the Spencer Rockets as the Gilman Pirates made off with a 53-32 win. The Pirates have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five contests by 21 points or more this season.

Leading Gilman to victory were Reece Weir and Kayleigh James. Weir almost dropped a double-double on ten points and nine boards, while James went 7 of 13 on her way to 15 points and three steals. The game was James' third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Claire Drier, who posted six points in addition to ten rebounds and five steals.

Gilman was working as a unit and finished the game with 13 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Spencer only racked up six assists.

Spencer's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Autumn Davis, who had ten points along with six boards and four steals. Davis is also on a roll when it comes to blocks, as she's now posted two or more in the last four games she's played. Alexa Weber was another key player, putting up eight points.

Gilman has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 7-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 52.8 points per game. As for Spencer, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-5 record this season.

Gilman will welcome Columbus Catholic at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Spencer, they will head out to square off against Neillsville at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
