Softball Recap: Cary-Grove Trojans vs. Kaneland Knights
Cary-Grove had lost four straight on the road, but on Saturday they dropped their record down to 6-14 to make it five. They came up short against the Kaneland Knights, falling 15-0. If the Trojans were looking for revenge after losing 14-0 to the Knights when the teams met back in May of 2021, then they'll just have to keep looking.
As for Kaneland, their record is now 12-10. Considering their hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.
For Kaneland's part, Ellie Peck made a big impact no matter where she played. She pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Peck has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 1-for-1 with three RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, Kaneland got a massive performance out of Angelina Campise, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Riley Cooper was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three stolen bases and three runs.
Cary-Grove has already played their next game, a 5-1 win against Jacobs on the 5th. As for Kaneland, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 5-0 victory against Rochelle on the 5th.
