Duanesburg and Canajoharie are an even 4-4 against one another since April of 2015, but likely not for long. The Eagles will challenge the Cougars at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Duanesburg is coming into the game hot, having won their last three games.
Duanesburg came out on top against Johnstown on Tuesday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run sixth inning. The Eagles sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 7-5 victory over the Sir Bills. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Eagles have posted since April 21st.
Duanesburg secured the victory behind a pair of hitters. One of them was Jacob Reese, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Another was Collin Lussier, who got on base in all five of his plate appearances.
Meanwhile, after only one run in their last matchup, Canajoharie made sure to put some runs up on the board against Oppenheim-Ephratah-St. Johnsville on Tuesday. The Cougars were the clear victors by a 15-9 margin over the Wolves. The Cougars might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six contests by six runs or more this season.
Cameron Fox made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out ten batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and four unearned) runs off four hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Brandon Memrick, who went 4-for-5 with five stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. Nicholas Barlow was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one run.
Canajoharie is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight games. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-4 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.1 runs over those games. As for Duanesburg, their record is now 11-5.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Wednesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Duanesburg has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.8 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Canajoharie struggles in that department as they've been averaging 6.6 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Duanesburg came out on top in a nail-biter against Canajoharie in their previous meeting back in April, sneaking past 4-2. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Eagles since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
