Baseball Recap: Gilmer County Find Success

Gilmer County took a ten-run defeat the last time they faced off against Wirt County, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Titans came out on top in a nail-biter against the Tigers on Tuesday, sneaking past 5-3. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last six times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Kolten Holbert made a splash no matter where he played. He struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up three earned runs off six hits. Holbert was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. He has become a key player for Gilmer County: the team is 11-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 5-7 otherwise.

Holbert wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Tyler Ratliff, who went 1-for-2 with one run.

Gilmer County hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Wirt County struck out eight times.

Gilmer County's victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 16-8. As for Wirt County, their loss dropped their record down to 12-10.

As of now, neither Gilmer County nor the Tigers have any future games scheduled.
