Softball Recap: Granville Central Panthers vs. Carrboro Jaguars

If Granville Central was riding high off their 21-6 takedown of Durham School of the Arts last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Granville Central Panthers fell victim to a rough 19-4 defeat at the hands of the Carrboro Jaguars on Monday. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Granville Central in their matchups with Carrboro: they've now lost three in a row.

Kayla Whitfield and Alanah Applewhite stepped up to the plate in a big way. Whitfield scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-1, while Applewhite scored a run and stole three bases while going 1-for-2. Christina Cappuccio was another key contributor, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 1-for-1.

Even though they lost, Granville Central hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Carrboro struck out six times.

Granville Central's defeat dropped their record down to 2-4. As for Carrboro, their win ended an eight-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 2-10.

Granville Central will be playing at home against Southern Durham at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Carrboro, they will head out on the road to take on South Granville at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Carrboro has given up an average of 16.6 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.
