San Lorenzo Valley and Aptos are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2023, but likely not for long. The Cougars are taking a road trip to take on the Mariners at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. San Lorenzo Valley is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.7 runs per game this season.
It was a proper cat-fight when San Lorenzo Valley duked it out with Santa Cruz on Tuesday. The Cougars blew past the Cardinals 11-4. The win continues a trend for the Cougars in their matchups with the Cardinals: they've now won five in a row.
Skylar Cloyd was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one hit in seven consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one run.
In other batting news, Ida Robertello was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Sophia Sarmiento was another key player, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Aptos beat Scotts Valley 7-2 on Tuesday.
Mya Najera-White spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on six hits.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Kalina Healy, who went 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Cara Allshouse, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double.
San Lorenzo Valley's record is now 11-9-1. As for Aptos, their record now sits at 20-4.
Thursday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. San Lorenzo Valley hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .333. However, it's not like Aptos struggles in that department as they've averaged .380. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
San Lorenzo Valley couldn't quite finish off Aptos when the teams last played two weeks ago and fell 4-2. Can the Cougars avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
