Softball Preview: Jefferson County Patriots vs. Greeneville Greene Devils
The Jefferson County Patriots will face off against the Greeneville Greene Devils at 5:30 p.m. on Monday.
The home team had come away the winner the last four times Jefferson County and Morristown-Hamblen West had met, but sadly for the fans who attended this one that wasn't the case. The Patriots fell 9-4 to the Trojans on Thursday.
Bella Watson made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Kayli Reece, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in two of her four plate appearances.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Greeneville). They came out on top against North Greene on Friday by a score of 23-10 (the very same score they lost by in their prior game). The win continues a trend for the Greene Devils in their matchups with the Huskies: they've now won nine in a row.
Kyla Jobe was incredible, scoring five runs and stealing a base while going 4-for-5. Those five runs gave her a new career-high. Kaley Garland was another key player, going 5-for-6 with one home run, four runs, and three RBI.
Greeneville was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .512. They are 6-2 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Greeneville's victory bumped their record up to 9-10. As for Jefferson County, their loss dropped their record down to 8-10.
Jefferson County came out on top in a nail-biter against Greeneville in their previous matchup back in March, sneaking past 6-5. Do the Patriots have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Greene Devils turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
