Pius X and Creighton Prep are an even 4-4 against one another since March of 2015, but likely not for long. The Thunderbolts will welcome the Junior Jays at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Pius X has given up an average of 6.9 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Seward hit Pius X with a four-run sixth inning last Monday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Thunderbolts lost 11-5 to the Bluejays. Thunderbolts fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Bluejays since last Monday.
Kai Vanis was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-3 with one home run. Lucas Newton was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Creighton Prep beat Rockhurst 4-1 on Monday.
Vinny Constantino looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has become a key player for Creighton Prep: the team is 3-1 when he allows at most two hits, but 6-8 otherwise.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Tony Coniglio, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with three stolen bases and one run. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in March of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Garrett Andersen, who went 1-for-2 with three RBI and one double.
Creighton Prep is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight games. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-9 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.6 runs on average over those games. As for Pius X, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-8.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Pius X has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.2 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Creighton Prep struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.4 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Pius X couldn't quite finish off Creighton Prep in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 and fell 3-1. Will the Thunderbolts have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
