Softball Recap: Newport Comes Up Short

Newport was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their sixth straight loss. They took a 7-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Sweet Home Huskies. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Huskies this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 5-4 two weeks ago.

Ivy Ruddiman was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-3 with one home run. Izzie Stark also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Newport's defeat dropped their record down to 3-13. As for Sweet Home, their victory bumped their record up to 11-6.

Looking ahead, Newport will square off against Philomath at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Cubs' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Warriors have averaged an impressive 7.6 runs per game this season. As for Sweet Home, they will challenge North Marion at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
