Baseball Game Preview: Ripley Tigers vs. Haywood Tomcats

Ripley is on a seven-game streak of home losses, and Haywood a seven-game streak of away losses. However, someone's due for a change in luck on Thursday. The Ripley Tigers will host the Haywood Tomcats at 6:30 p.m. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.

Ripley lost 20-8 to Peabody on Wednesday.

Alex Caldwell made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs while going 2-for-3. John MacLin also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Meanwhile, Haywood came up short against Lake County on Tuesday, falling 9-1.

Ty' Sean Mercer was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and one double. He is becoming a predictor of Haywood's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is 2-1 (and 1-13 when he doesn't).

Haywood's defeat dropped their record down to 3-14. As for Ripley, their loss dropped their record down to 3-9.

Everything went Ripley's way against Haywood in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, as Ripley made off with a 25-6 victory. Will the Tigers repeat their success, or do the Tomcats have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
