League recap: Barstow win leads to rise in state rank

Barstow moved up to 405 from 573 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in Desert Sky. The Aztecs were able to make the jump by beating Twentynine Palms 30-8.

Burroughs and Apple Valley played the most hotly contested game in the league this week, with Burroughs eventually emerging with a 9-8 victory.

Barstow's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Tracy Venable threw for 68 yards and Jordan Soto had 68 yards receiving. On the ground James Noble chipped in 168 yards. Devonte Tate helped Barstow's passing attack out by catching two balls for 30 yards.

The Burros' Ej Watts and Jackson French have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Watts has thrown for 527 yards this season, while French has 22 catches for 274 yards. Noble from Mike Esposito's team leads the league in rushing with 938 yards.

The Aztecs' Noble is a mere 62 yards away from breaking the 1,000-rushing-yards mark for the season.

Barstow took down the Wildcats 30-8 last week, the largest margin of any game. Noble threw for 43 yards in the win.
