South Florence extended their postseason success on Friday against Gray Collegiate Academy. They breezed past the War Eagles to the tune of 55-14. The Bruins might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 12 games by 28 points or more this season.
South Florence got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Messiah Jackson out in front who rushed for 105 yards and five scores, and also threw for 52 yards and one touchdown. Those five rushing touchdowns gave Jackson a new career-high. Cameron James also helped out as he racked up 176 rushing yards.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: South Florence was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 337 rushing yards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Gray Collegiate Academy only rushed for 120.
South Florence didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Jewel Washington and Amare Reaves.
Although Gray Collegiate Academy took the loss, they still got scores from Corey Gleaton and Jp Sweatt.
The win (which was South Florence's 11th in a row) raised their record to 13-1. The victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 7.7 points on average over those games. As for Gray Collegiate Academy, with the loss, they broke their ten-game winning streak and moved their record to 11-3.
Coming up, South Florence will venture away from home to take on South Pointe at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Bruins will need to watch out since the Stallions have now posted at least 31 points in their last eight contests. Gray Collegiate Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
