Basketball Recap: Friday's Defeat Ends Liberty's Winning Streak

Liberty lost against James Monroe back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Liberty Raiders took a 43-35 hit to the loss column at the hands of the James Monroe Mavericks. The Raiders' loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

Despite the defeat, Liberty saw an underclassman step up: freshman Jaxson Workman posted 11 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Workman has scored all season. Riley Marty was another key player, putting up six points and nine boards.

It was another big night for Ryan Mann, who went 6 of 13 en route to 19 points in addition to seven rebounds and five steals for James Monroe. That's the most steals Mann has posted since back in February of 2024. Another player making a difference was Kadyn Hines, who scored 11 points along with seven boards and five steals.

Liberty's loss dropped their record down to 3-3. As for James Monroe, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 7-1.

Liberty will take on PikeView at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday. PikeView has been dominant on offense recently, having racked up an incredible 198 points over their last three games. As for James Monroe, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 63-55 win against Bluefield on the 21st.
