Softball Recap: South Medford's Losing Streak Snapped at Four Games

After low-scoring totals in their previous four contests, South Medford brought some dynamite into their most recent matchup. They never let the South Eugene Axe get on the board and left with a 15-0 victory on Saturday. The win was some much needed relief for the Panthers as it spelled an end to their four-game losing streak.

Jordan Knutson made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with four RBI, one run, and one double.

In other batting news, South Medford got a massive performance out of Jayden Cote, who scored three runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-2. Cote also brought in two RBI, marking her first of the season. Dannika Ostvik was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing five bases while going 3-for-3.

South Medford always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .679. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

South Medford's victory was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-4 and their overall record up to 6-4. As for South Eugene, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-8.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: South Medford beat the Axe by a score of 23-0 later that day.
