Basketball Recap: Falcon Skates Past Widefield with Ease

A well-balanced attack led Falcon over Widefield in every quarter on their way to victory on Saturday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that the Falcon Falcons blew the Widefield Gladiators out of the water with a 57-26 final score. The Falcons pushed the score to 42-19 by the end of the third, a deficit the Gladiators had little chance of recovering from.

Falcon was led to victory by Cobelyn Wiesner and Amelia Avdem. Wiesner posted 17 points, while Avdem went 6 of 14 on her way to 14 points in addition to five boards and four steals. Wiesner is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last eight games she's played dating back to last season. Another player making a difference was Alexis Hunter, who put up two points in addition to seven rebounds, four blocks, and three steals.

Falcon smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in seven consecutive matchups dating back to last season.

Despite the loss, Widefield had strong showings from Isabella Monk, who had nine points along with seven rebounds and six steals, and Lilly Solano, who posted eight points and three steals. That was a full 34.6% of Widefield's points, marking the fourth time in a row she's put up more than a third of the team's points.

Falcon's victory was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 2-0. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 44.8 points. As for Widefield, they now have a losing record at 3-4.

Falcon didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 59-50 win against Discovery Canyon on the 17th. As for Widefield, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 65-38 defeat against Pueblo East on the 19th.
