Softball Recap: Monte Vista Mustangs vs. Carondelet Cougars

Monte Vista extended their losing streak to five on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 4-8 in the process. They fell 4-1 to the Carondelet Cougars. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Cougars this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 11-7 back in March.

Monte Vista saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Sophia Leyden, who went 1-for-2 with one run and one double.

As for Carondelet, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 8-10. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games.

On Carondelet's side, Maia Scholtens spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on five hits. Scholtens has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.
