Basketball Recap: Holy Name Green Wave vs. Cloverleaf Colts
Holy Name lost against Cloverleaf back in February of 2018 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The Holy Name Green Wave fell to the Cloverleaf Colts 57-52. While losing is never fun, the Green Wave can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 355th, while the Colts are ranked 121st).
Holy Name's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jordan Cremona, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 14 boards. Cremona continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Noemi Cartagena, who went 5 of 11 on her way to 19 points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Evie Barth continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Cloverleaf, putting up 16 points in addition to eight steals and five boards. Barth has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last four times she's played. Another player making a difference was Kayla Shook, who posted five points in addition to nine rebounds and three blocks.
This is the second loss in a row for Holy Name and nudges their season record down to 3-5. As for Cloverleaf, their victory bumped their record up to 9-1.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Holy Name will head out to face off against Garrett Morgan at 7:00 p.m. on January 6th. As for Cloverleaf, they will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Norton at 7:00 p.m. on January 8th.
