Basketball Game Preview: St. Thomas More Sabers vs. Bloomington Central Catholic Saints

St. Thomas More is 0-10 against Bloomington Central Catholic since January of 2016 but things could change on Thursday. The St. Thomas More Sabers will host the Bloomington Central Catholic Saints at 7:00 p.m.

St. Thomas More is headed into Thursday's game looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their fourth straight game on Monday. They took a 40-27 hit to the loss column at the hands of Tolono Unity.

Meanwhile, Bloomington Central Catholic earned a 59-49 win over Illinois Valley Central on Monday. Given the Saints' advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 87th, while the Grey Ghosts are ranked 210th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

St. Thomas More better focus on containing Emme Hurie and Karissa Cook as the pair were huge in Bloomington Central Catholic's win. Hurie dropped a double-double on 25 points and ten boards, while Cook went 9 of 17 on her way to 23 points and four steals. Hurie is becoming a predictor of Bloomington Central Catholic's success: when she posts at least ten boards the team is 11-3 (and 2-3 when she doesn't).

Bloomington Central Catholic has been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 12 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 13-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 53.9 points per game. As for St. Thomas More, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-13.

St. Thomas More was dealt a bruising 72-27 loss at the hands of Bloomington Central Catholic in their previous matchup back in January of 2024.
