Basketball Recap: St. Vincent-St. Mary Picks Up Fifth Consecutive Victory

St. Vincent-St. Mary had already proven themselves in the regular season and they didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They skirted past the Bloom-Carroll Bulldogs 42-39. Given the Fighting Irish's advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 15th in Ohio, while the Bulldogs are ranked 172nd in Ohio), the result on Wednesday wasn't entirely unexpected.

When it comes to explaining why Bloom-Carroll lost, don't look at Whitney Passen. Despite the final result, she went 6-for-12 on her way to 16 points. Tessa Brooks was another key player, putting up five points and six boards.

The victory was the fifth in a row for St. Vincent-St. Mary, bringing their record for this year to 23-2. The wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 26.4 points over those games. As for Bloom-Carroll, with the defeat, they broke their four-game winning streak and moved their record to 13-13.

Looking ahead, St. Vincent-St. Mary will square off against Avon Lake at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Avon Lake will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something St. Vincent-St. Mary surely won't give up without a fight. Bloom-Carroll does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
